Canada is a country of diversity – ethnically, socially, and culturally – that is reflective of its people. As a first generation Canadian of Indo-Caribbean heritage, I fully recognize the difference between the ideal of Canadian diversity and its practice. Racial, cultural, and gender-based discrimination are still prevalent throughout Canadian society and should be recognized.
My vision for the PKMS lab is not only to function as a venue for conducting impactful translational research but also serve as a space where members from different backgrounds can meet, discuss, and share their culture and lived experiences. I have always found diversity to be a strength, not only from a food perspective (😄), but how working with people from different backgrounds can drive new ways of thinking and research ideas. I encourage all interested individuals including international candidates and members of under-represented groups to apply.
